SMA Treasurer Alexandra Myers attends the Olympics as USA Rugby team doc

Olympics 2024
I had the distinct honor of serving as the team doctor for the USA rugby sevens women’s and
men’s teams at the Paris Olympics. We went to Tours for a week-long training camp where we
enjoyed the tranquil Loire Valley and had a great practice match against Ireland. Upon arriving
in Paris it was full steam ahead with training and competition. The men competed in a 3 day
tournament that overlapped the opening ceremonies, followed by the women’s tournament.
The women won a Bronze medal and it was an incredible experience to watch athletes I have
cared for over the past six years triumph over a tough Australian squad. There was a lot of
celebration afterwards including a medal ceremony at the base of the Eiffel Tower.
Paris was a great host city and it was a beautiful experience. From a medical standpoint we had a lot of acute on chronic injuries, but no injuries that kept athletes from competing which was a true blessing. Rugby is a rough sport!
