Brian Ravouvou – 2025 Scholarship Recipient
Current Program: Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner), Year 2
Institution: Fiji National University
Expected Graduation: December 2025
Brian Ravouvou, a registered general nurse and midwife based in Lautoka, has dedicated
more than 15 years to serving some of Fiji’s most remote and high-need communities. Now
in the second year of his Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) program at Fiji National
University, Brian continues to balance full-time work with rigorous academic training—all
while supporting his spouse and four children.
As the sole breadwinner in his family, Brian faced significant financial hardship after being
unable to secure a scholarship during the first year of his Master’s program. He relied
entirely on savings to cover over $17,000 in tuition and housing. Despite this, he remains
steadfast in his pursuit of advanced clinical education, returning to work while studying in a
blended-learning format to support both his family and professional development.
Throughout his career, Brian has led maternal care, trauma response, vaccination outreach,
and public health efforts across the Lau Islands and Western Division. From rural nursing
stations to emergency departments, he has shown a lifelong commitment to compassionate,
community-centered care. The SMA Scholarship comes at a crucial time in his
journey—providing financial relief and renewed motivation as he trains to become a Nurse
Practitioner and expand healthcare access across Fiji.
